Dr Jeremy Silvester

Dr Jeremy Silvester is the Director of the Museums Association of Namibia, an NGO responsible for regional museum development. His recent work has included mobile exhibitions of Namibian artefacts held outside Namibia: Oombale Dhi Ihaka: The Bond That Cannot Be Broken featuring objects from the Ondonga Kingdom at the National Museum of Finland and //Ha//xae (!Xung) Ma/aos (Hai//om) Gǁa ǁKae (Ju’/hoansi) Tȇȇ /xai (Khwe) Dea /Xae (Naro) Stand Together featuring objects from San communities in Museum Africa in Johannesburg. He is now focused on Confronting Colonial Pasts, Envisaging Creative Futures which links the return of cultural artefacts to the development of a Museum of Namibian Fashion. For CAM, he has focused on the Human Remains Management project encouraging the development of policy and guidelines in Southern Africa. He would like to further develop CAM as a postcolonial network and improve dialogue with museums in the UK about cultural restoration and new forms of partnership as well as the development and accreditation of the distance learning programme to meet the needs of museum staff who may not have formal qualifications.
