Dr David Gaimster is the Chief Executive Officer of the Auckland Museum in New Zealand, where he leads the strategic direction of the museum ensuring its ongoing relevance, building capacity as a place of learning and engagement and cementing the museum’s status as a leader in the cultural sector. David is an experienced museum director and academic with extensive knowledge in the museum and cultural heritage economy. His career spans more than 30 years in senior roles in museums, most recently as Director of The Hunterian, one of the UK’s largest university museum services and the oldest museum in Scotland. He has also worked in central government policy making on cultural property, and as the CEO of a national Learned Society and conservation charity. He has organised several major exhibitions that have toured internationally, and has published extensively on historical European archaeology and material culture, museology and on international cultural property policy. In 2019 he was appointed Hon Adjunct Professor in Museum and Cultural Heritage at the University of Auckland. He is hoping to host the next CAM Triennial General Assembly in 2023.
